I want to congratulate the 3 grand prize winners of the HP Dara Torres Mom’s for Simplicity online essay contest. In addition to each receiving a
customized technology makeover and cool HP products, they get to meet me at the US Nationals in Indianapolis and possibly the World Championships in Rome.

On technology simplifying her life

Technology's been awesome for helping me stay in touch with my daughter. I'm on the road a lot; whether it's for work or for
swim meets. And I remember being in Bejing and I used my computer and Skype to talk to my daughter. I mean it's just much
different than if you're on the phone talking to her than if you actually get to see her smiling face and how bubbly – And,
it just sort of tugs at the heart. It's great because if feels like I'm connected with her when I actually see her. So, it
helps a lot having the computer and being able to talk to your daughter in a video chat.

On her daily routine

I have a pretty busy routine, I get up in the morning, actually my daughter comes
running in the room now and wakes me up. And so we get up and watch a little television and I make her breakfast.
I actually bring my computer with me over into her playroom where she's watching TV and I start to return emails and
maybe get my workout from my strength and conditioning coach on what I need to do that week; print it out; and then
head over to the pool once the nanny comes and do my training which usually lasts until 1:30 or 2:00 in the afternoon.
And then my daughter is either napping or refuses to take a nap. Whichever one she decides to do, I work my schedule
around that and we either go to the park or pool and play. She’s a very outdoorsy kind of girl, loves to always do something,
not very quiet and shy so she has a lot of energy. And I have to sort of let her get that energy out. And we'll do a lot of fun things
and then we'll come home and play a little bit more and take a bath and have dinner and then I'll eventually read to her and
put her down. And we actually – well her new thing now is she likes to Skype people before she goes to bed. Not only does
she like to see them but we lay in bed and put the computer on our lap and we Skype like her grandmother or her cousins or
something like that. And I think she’s very conniving so it's her way to stay up just a little bit later than she has to.
It's fun. It's like our little thing we like to do before she goes to bed is to see who's on Skype and Skype them before she goes to bed.

On being a busy mom

Well, I am a very busy mom. I have my daughter to take care of, I have my training schedule,
and I'm on the road a lot now for work and giving motivational talks. I find that having an HP computer
and being able to put my schedule up on the computer, paying my bills when I'm on the road. It just makes
everything so much easier. And for me, I really need simplicity right now. I don't have time to sit around and
figure out bills and do everything. I just like everything on one computer and just doing it all at once.
It just makes everything so much easier.

On using technology with her daughter

I think the biggest thing that I love having on my computer are my pictures. I download them on there and that way when
I travel they're on there and I can see my daughter and my family and my friends. I like to have it where it comes up
and does the photo album and does a slideshow. Hanging out in your hotel room it just sort of flashes up.

On technology for on-the-go

If I didn't have a computer when I was on the road I'd feel lost, not feeling connected to my friends and my family.
I do all of my emails on it. I do the instant messaging. It's very important for me to feel connected to my friends
and family when I'm on the road and having a computer with me really helps with that.
